Another BBB nooner teaser!

Hi! OK so maybe this time around I won't be talking (or rather writing) much because I am actually busy doing something else but I noticed this mini teaser of a phone post was in the drafts section, never published. So I decided to publish it ASAP (as in right now!) to make sure it does not disappear into the all-too-numerous drafts and unfinished posts accumulated on this blog! Thanks for stopping by and hope you understand the concept behind these phone nooner quickie teasers!

R.I.P. Mika Vainio

Mika Tapio Vainio, born 1963 in Helsinki, Finland. Died on April 13 2017 in France, at age 53.

To most people, his name and face won't mean much of anything, and even to the small percentage of people on the planet who can recognize his name, not everyone really enjoyed or appreciated his sonic designs. And to loosely paraphrase in a form of interpretation, most people simply "won't care" at all. With the end of 2015 starting a startling ongoing series of pop culture deaths throughout 2016, bigger names and more popular people have made the headlines and plastered social media with their passing. Which is why this one is so important: I learned about it 5 days after it happened (as opposed to, say, David Bowie where the whole planet knew before breakfast that day), and at this moment, at the time I am writing this, no news have surfaced on his official website, and no details surrounding the event(s) of his passing have surfaced. One article I read mentioned he passed away after a fall, but that was the extent of the details. To quote my half brother Z: a fall from a bike or a fall from a cliff?

Mika Vainio will always be more remembered as half of the Finnish duo Panasonic who were renamed Pan Sonic after their first few releases. Originally a trio, Sami Salo left the band back in 1995 leaving Mika and Ilpo as the core members who would continue forth for a good 15 years before breaking up the band. Throughout their stint they also released solo material and collaborated with a bevy of other artists, and after the decision to disband Panasonic, they continued their separate sonic explorations. Out of the two Panasonic members, Mika always was slightly more prolific, releasing more than one record or release per year. It is no secret that his death comes as a total shock to me since I have always viewed these two guys (Panasonic) as one of the most important influences in my music. Once in an interview I did alongside FZ as the band ReCyClor, after a 7 minute recital of what felt like hundreds of bands mentioned by FZ as musical influences, I myself simply mentioned Kraftwerk and Panasonic as the main influences on my electronic musical inspiration. I always wished I could live to one day see Ilpo and Mika perform live (I missed their 3 appearances as Panasonic ages ago and then missed when they played unpromoted shows over the past years), but with this news, what can I say? Yes I am quite shocked and do not know how long I will take to get back from this, but I will do a piece, if not an album, dedicated to the memory of Mika Vainio. Rest in peace.
